Join a multi-day statistics masterclass in January

A multi-day statistics workshop will be held from 16th to 19th of January at the University of Tartu. The comprehensive workshop 'Master class: Towards Data Analysis Excellence' will be conducted by Professor Petar Milin from the University of Birmingham. The master class is intended for linguists and language researchers who use statistics in their daily work.

This workshop is intended for linguists and language scientists looking to build a foundational understanding of statistical modelling for linguistic data. We will focus on Linear, Generalised Linear, and Generalised Additive Mixed Effects models, employing hands-on exercises that leverage real research problems and datasets. The workshop also aims to clarify the concept of random effects in modelling and will touch upon its relation to Bayesian modelling approaches.

This workshop is suitable for individuals with some background in statistics and a strong interest in Methodological Excellence in Data-Driven Approaches to Linguistics (MEDAL). It is especially relevant for those who wish to apply these skills in academic or research settings. Attendees should have experience working with R and be comfortable reading data and running basic statistical procedures.

When? Tuesday 16 - Friday 19 January 2024.

Where? The master class will take place at the University of Tartu, Jakobi 2-428.

NB for online participants: only the morning sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday will be hybrid; all other sessions will only take place on site in Tartu.
